Lyrics by Michele Payton and Darla McCammon; Music by Michele Payton.
Have you ever had one of those days when you wish you had stayed home? Or that you could walk around with a mask or bag over your head so no one would know you? Well, I have had a lot of them! Early in my walk with Christ I did, well–I still do–some pretty dumb things when I don’t have my focus on God. Those dumb things lead to pretty bad days.
Sometimes reading a great book with a very happy ending brings my focus back onto Christ and the good things in life–like the happy ending that we will eventually have. Or have you had one of those days when everything went wrong and it was raining cats and dogs and all of a sudden a huge beautiful rainbow glowed in the sky? Or, in my case: I was at the beach while I still lived in California – it was cold, rainy and somewhat dreary then all at once the sun came out to dance on the waves and sparkle on the sand.
Well that’s how this song got started. I had a horrible day. I really did make someone mad and pretty much everything else in the song happened to me at one time or another. Darla pitched in and helped me with the lyrics on this one. I especially liked the verse where she says: “My life is like un-matching plaid, found out I’m dressed in last year’s fad–losing one more thread–” Darla likes to do knitting and crochet in case you wondered where she came up with the thread idea!
I realized it does not matter because the only thing I really need is God, I mean REALLY need Him.
II Corinthians 12:9-10 – And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
